Introduction
At the end of XX century the new genre, the so-called «faces of time» has appeared in the literary criticism. This genre was different from the genre of the monography and represented the series of the articles, sketches or the portraits.
«The Literature is the trace of the epoch », - Dmitry Zatonsky has written in his book « Художественные ориентиры XX века». The millenniums of such "traces", investigated or plunged in the darkness of oblivion, are the passion, despair and delight of philologists. Her works were translated into Russian many times. They were republished and from the first moment of their appearance have a great popularity in Russia, especially «Jane Eyre».
The compositions of the writer made improbable success and caused numerous reader's and critical responses. There were both laudatory and disapproving notes about her novels. The novels of Charlotte answered the spiritual needs of Russians of that time, to aspiration of Russian women to emancipation and liberation. The novels of Bronte were translated into Russian at once after their appearance in England.
«Jane Eyre» is the most popular novels and has received the most attention of critics and scholars. The critic M. H. Scargill noted in the University of Toronto that «Jane Eyre» marked a tu
ing point in the English novel, away from exte
al conce
s and toward personal experience. Scargill called the novel «a profound, spiritual experience» in which fiction approaches to the condition of poetry. Mode
feminists see «Jane Eyre» as one of the first feminist novels. In the biography of Brontë, «The Brontës: Charlotte Brontë and Her Family», Rebecca Fraser remarks that it was Charlotte's protest against the stifling convention society imposed, which never allowed true feeling to be voiced. However, Scargill notes that «Jane Eyre» may speak for women, but it speaks also for all humanity.
“Jane Eyre” is one of the most popular novels in the world. Its specificity consist of the fact that Charlotte Bronte has entered a new typological image of the poor, but proud heroine - gove
ess into the world of literature. This image had caused many imitations and allusions in the works of different writers.
