I want to start my essay with the words of American writer Twyla Dell:
"The heart of motivation is to give people what they really want most from work. The more you are able to provide what they want, the more you should expect what you really want, namely: productivity, quality, and service." (An Honest Day's Work (1988))
Summing up aforesaid I’d like to say The success of any organization, big or small depends upon its employees. The staff force of an enterprise truly determines how far the organization will go towards achieving its goals and objectives. Business environment is more often than not, chaotic and turbulent so commercial success hinges upon staff using their full talents in best possible way. There are plenty of theories and practices available to the managers that focus upon extracting the best out of employees. However, despite all these, what truly determines the working attitude and performance of the staff force is the much talked about concept of motivation. Every individual is motivated by different thing and certainly, in a different way. That explains why managements world over spent a great deal of time on understanding employee motivation.
Number of management thinkers and psychologists has tried to explain the concept of job motivation. The experiments on these lines are going on since the time industrial revolution took place. One apt definition is, “The heart of motivation is to give people what they really want most from work. The more you are able to provide what they want, the more you should expect what you really want, namely: productivity, quality, and service" by Twyla Dell.
Motivating staff is significant to the growth, development and performance of the organization. If employees are happy and motivated, the direct beneficiary is the organization. If the company has paid attention to foster a positive motivation philosophy, then it is bound to improve service, quality and productivity of the staffs. Motivated employees are more likely to achieve the set goals and make the best use of their talents. They are also likely to have a sense of affinity with the company and attitude is directed towards job performance.
