WTO rules and their influence on Russian economy

The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the only global inte
ational organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed by the bulk of the world’s trading nations and ratified in their parliaments. The goal is to help producers of goods and services, exporters, and importers conduct their business.
The WTO is a rules-based, member-driven organization — all decisions are made by the member gove
ments, and the rules are the outcome of negotiations among members.
The question of entering the World Trade Organization (WTO) has become very timely for many CIS countries. These states thoroughly weigh all pros and cons and hold serious negotiations with the WTO membercountries, striving to join the organization on similar conditions. Several CIS countries have already become members of this inte
ational organization. Russia joined WTO in 2011. Now, after two years of membership it would be interesting to find out how advantageous and productive it was.
This coursework statement is to reveal the influence of WTO rules on Russian economy.
So, we have some tasks to obtain:
1. Give the review of WTO history.
2. Reveal functions and principle of trading system
3. Give the review of the consequences of Russia entering the WTO.
The object of the work is Russia entering the WTO.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) is an organization that intends to supervise and liberalize inte
ational trade. The organization officially commenced on 1 January 1995 under the Marrakech Agreement, replacing the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), which commenced in 1948. The organization deals with regulation of trade between participating countries; it provides a framework for negotiating and formalizing trade agreements, and a dispute resolution process aimed at enforcing participants' adherence to WTO agreements, which are signed by representatives of member gove
ments and ratified by their parliaments. Most of the issues that the WTO focuses on derive from previous trade negotiations, especially from the Uruguay Round.
WTO membership promises certain additional prospects for future progress. Apparently, the considerations of long-term development, with due account of the country’s specific fetures, should be the most important reasons for adopting such responsible decisions.
Members agreed to directly forward Russia’s accession package to the 8th Ministerial Conference for adoption by Ministers on 15-17 December 2011.
Russia ratified its accession package within 220 days as of the Ministerial decision (until about 22 July 2012).
Thirty days after the notification to the WTO of the ratification, the Russian Federation became a fully-fledged member.
On the 16th of December 2011, Russia cleared the final hurdle to become a WTO member. WTO Ministers adopted Russia’s WTO terms of entry at the 8th Ministerial Conference in Geneva. Russia will have to ratify the deal within the next 220 days and would become a fully-fledged WTO member 30 days after it notifies the ratification to the WTO.
To improve access to official publications, the Russian Federation would establish an enquiry point providing assistance to members and all other stakeholders.
