Introduction.

1. The general principles of the work.

The theme “Higher education in the USA” was chosen for several reasons. Firstly, it’s quite an urgent question in mode
times because of the following motives:
(1) many people go to the USA in order to lea
there. Usually they are young men, who have finished school or graduated a university in their country and are willing to continue the education abroad. The USA are chosen because of their prosperous education and life and world-wide-known quality of higher education;
(2) education is a considerable part of the lifestyle of the given country. Since we study English, the education system as a whole and the particular spheres of it, like higher education, is very interesting for us as a part of everyday American life. In this diploma paper we’ll try to concentrate not only on the structure and theory of the education system, but also on the part it plays in the life of ordinary American citizen and on the characteristic features of the student’s life.
(3) Our country now tries to modify the system of higher education (for example, the system of United State Exam and so on) and the experience of other countries, including the USA, can be of great use for managing our everyday political situation.
These three reasons make the theme of the diploma paper very interesting and up to date for the contemporary world.
The following investigation is aimed at outlining the social and public role of the higher education in the society in general and in the system of education in particular. In other words, we’ll try to describe the system as such and to comment upon its peculiarities relying over several criteria of comparison. The system of higher education can be compared, on the one hand, with the system in different countries – Europe, especially Britain, Russia, even Asian system. On the other hand, it can be compared with the system of education, which precedes the higher one in the whole system of the education...
Conclusion.

The analysis of higher education system in the USA and its role in the society and education as a whole leads us to the following ideas:
(1) The educational system is aimed not only in growing specialists and members of the society. It also gives some social benefits through innovations in different spheres. The innovations are created in the system of education with the help of problem-oriented or goal-oriented approach to the process of teaching. It means that the students are taught to solve problems using the skills they receive in the classroom. It will help them to apply their knowledge acquired during the education process in concrete life and business situations. Also it leads to the search of problems and their solution through some innovations in different spheres.
(2) The functional approach to the sphere of education realizes itself in the conception of business-oriented education. It means, that most diploma papers and other students’ works have practical apply. Then, the curriculum is formatted by the student himself in order to cover the subjects he can apply in his future business.
(3) The higher education institution also presupposes some research work – both scientific and student one. That is, most universities and colleges have a research centre for students and teachers, which helps them to renew their knowledge and acquire practical skills.
(4) The higher education institutions give the state some social benefits. First of all, it refers to the tax system, which helps the state to have a certain income of the colleges and universities. The educational institutions also help to upgrade the social life throughout the personal income, which grows proportionally to the diploma and degree got. The statistic figures quoted in the text of diploma paper make it clear.
(5) The analysis of the concrete colleges and universities shows that in their presentation and advertising they try to concentrate on the practical value of the education...
