et. The worldwide demand for English has created an enormous demand for quality language teaching and language teaching materials and resources. Lea
ers set themselves demanding goals. They want to be able to master English to a high level of accuracy and fluency. Employers, too, insist that their employees have good English language skills, and fluency in English is a prerequisite for success and advancement in many fields of employment in today’s world. The demand for an appropriate teaching methodology is therefore as strong as ever.

In this coursework we will examine the methodology known as testing and explore the assumptions it is based on, its origins and evolution since it was first proposed in the 1970s, and how it has influenced approaches to language teaching today.
The issue of testing in English language teaching is acute for students interesting in studying English as foreign language as well as everybody who would like to study abroad.
The objective of the coursework is definition of English language teaching, methodology of ELT as well as types of tests used in teaching.
The coursework consists of the introduction, three chapters and of the conclusion
ESL (English as a second language), ESOL (English for speakers of other languages), and EFL (English as a foreign language) all refer to the use or study of English by speakers with a different native language. The precise usage, including the different use of the terms ESL and ESOL in different countries, is described below. These terms are most commonly used in relation to teaching and lea
ing English, but they may also be used in relation to demographic information.
